Abstract

This paper investigates the integration of a PD detector into a commercially available monitoring system for transformers like DGA sensors in order to create a multidimensional monitoring approach. The chosen PD sensors rely on the UHF method and preliminary measurements essential for validating these sensors have been successfully conducted. Initially, suitable PD sensors are selected for integration. Subsequently, the effect of the transformer tank on the PD sensors is investigated through the S-parameter evaluation. Then different artificial PD sources are placed inside the tank and powered through the tank's bushing to evaluate the performance of PD sensors in PD detection. Furthermore, an analysis and comparison are conducted on the correlation between the acquired PRPD patterns, using electrical measurements in accordance with IEC 60270 and those obtained through the investigated PD sensors and a commercially available UHF-based sensor. Following a comprehensive performance analysis based on different parameters, selected sensors will be integrated into standard online monitoring system for further research.
