Abstract

Partial discharge (PD) and dissipation factor behavior of model insulating systems for high voltage rotating machines under different stresses are discussed. Electrical stress can lead to insulation degradation caused by PD activity and electrical testing. The comparison of PD patterns confirms that different defects generate different PD patterns and that the defect type can be recognized by pattern evaluation. The PD measurements at different temperatures show that a significant change in temperature causes changes in the PD pattern with different trends. It is found that the amplitude and number of PD pulses in the case of internal discharges decrease with increasing temperature.
