Principles of Electric Power Systems

Course overview No.: 35602 & 35604

German title: Grundlagen der elektrischen Energieversorgung

Students gain an introductory, basic understanding of the structure and operation of electrical energy systems and their equipment. Lecture is held on Thursdays from 05:00 pm to 08:15 pm. The exercises are held on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Description

After successful completion of the module, students can:

  • handle the complex phasor display, the passive sign convention and the single-phase circuits and apply them to power networks
  • explain the structure and operation of symmetrical electrical power supply systems and equipment for the steady state
  • explain the behaviour of the system and equipment in normal operation and in the event of symmetrical faults
  • construct and parameterize equipment and system models and perform calculations of symmetrical electrical systems for the steady state on the basis of acquired calculation methods
  • assess the static stability and determine frequency deviations in case of power differences
